COMMUNITY NEWS
GENERAL NOTICE:
NEW WEBSITE
For those who do not already know about it, a group of community
members have developed a website addressing the issues
surrounding the Shooting Range.
The website is called: "Levylead" and can be found at
www.levylead.com .
This website is not affiliated with the South Yaphank Civic
Association in any way
but is simply the product of the efforts of several community
members who have collected a wide range of facts regarding the
illegality of the of the range and its effects on the community
and the environment.

MAY 14, 2011
There is an important meeting of
the Council on Environmental Quality next Wednesday
May 18 at 9:30am on the 4th floor of the H.
Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge.
The CEQ will be reviewing the
comments received on the DEIS for Legacy Village and
sale of the land in Yaphank.
Thank you to everyone who responded quickly
and sent comments in before the deadline. These comments
were incorporated and will play a vital role in the
decision on May 18. The CEQ will either rule that the
DGEIS was sufficient and issue a negative declaration
for the project, or they will decide the comments that
were received were substantial and additional changes
should be made for a Final Environmental Impact
statement (FEIS). It is important that anyone available
to attend shows up to urge the CEQ for a FEIS.
In addition, Legislator Kennedy’s
resolution to declare 95 industrial acres surplus and available
for sale at auction will be considered. IR 1341-11 is an
alternative proposal to reduce the amount of land being sold in
Yaphank and focus on the property that will not have to be
rezoned by the Town of Brookhaven. Although this is not the best
option, which is keep all the land public, it is better than
selling 247 acres. In the event County Executive Levy vetoes
Bill Lindsay’s resolution to surplus 247 acres, this could be an
option. I am attaching this resolution for your records. The CEQ
will have to decide whether this receives a negative or positive
declaration.
I know many of you work, but anyone
available to attend should be there. Thanks.

I decided this year instead of volunteering for the
LI 2 Day Walk I would actually walk. The event is
being held June 11-12. It is a 35 mile walk for
Breast Cancer. We walk 20 miles the first day & 15
the 2nd day. I have set a goal to raise $1,000.00
for the cure& I now ask you to help me raise money
for this worthy cause. Please consider a donation;
any donation; $10.00, $20.00, whatever! Every
donation-big or small will help me reach my goal.
Thank you for your support & friendship!! You can go
to
www.li2daywalk.org
click on donate & put my last name in!! Thanks
again.....
Always, Debbie
